All Tom Brown ever wanted to be was a rock star. He'll get his wish, but not exactly the way he planned it. Following a freak snowboarding accident, Tom finds himself in a strange alternate reality where he's recruited by Penis Envy, a group of queer punks on a nationwide tour. Faster than he can say 'boy band,' Tom's sharing a cramped van, shooting a low budget video and rocking every drag bar in sight. Tom's fame soars, but not everyone is a fan. Pursued by mysterious men in black and paisley, and accompanied by the most dysfunctional road crew ever assembled, Tom must discover his true destiny on the road to the band's final gig at National Free Thought Day in New York City. Saving the world is deadly business, but someone had to do it.

"Tom Brown Saves the World recounts the late 20-something fantasy of a man who achieves the rock star adoration he has always fantasized about and then has to deal with the consequenceies.

This is the second self-published work from author Eddie Beverage, his first being the underground classic 200 BPM. In the seven years since that work, Eddie himself has matured from a teenager to a twentysomething and so have his characters.

Tom Brown is written in the the same "underground pop" tone of 200 BPM, and the theme of gayness permeates this title, however unlike 200 BPM the main character Tom Brown is not gay, just his "Penis Envy" bandmates. Other themes include exposing the dangers of rampant commercialism, religion, and the cult of personality.

This assault on US culture is achieved mainly with the secondary characters, who are an unlikely assortment of groupies, suburbanites, hitmen, Christians, cybernauts, and punk rock musicians. Somehow it works. There is something great about it, and hopefully we won't have to wait another seven years to hear again from Mr. Beverage. Somebody mainstream publish this guy already. What more do you need?"
